Maternal, Adolescent & Child Health Institute NPC, (MatCH) is a non-profit organization supporting public sector health services. MatCH implements donor funded projects to improve HIV and TB outcomes through providing technical assistance and direct service delivery support. MatCH is looking to fill the following position under a project funded by THINK Tuberculosis and HIV Investigative Network RF NPC aimed to strengthen the health care delivery platform for TB in the Eastern Cape.


Location:  Joe Gqabi District (Eastern Cape Province)


Duration of Contract:  Fixed term contract ending 30 September 2022

Main purpose of the job:

To provide technical assistance and direct service delivery with clinical care and treatment for Drug sensitive TB (DSTB), Drug resistant TB (DRTB), co-infected HIV/TB and complicated cases including training, mentoring, clinical reviews and case management


Key performance areas

  • Technical assistance with clinical care and treatment
  • Review, examine and treat complicated cases in respect of DSTB, DRTB and TB/HIV co-infected patients
  • Treat opportunistic infections diagnosed
  • Provide TB treatment and TB preventative therapy (TPT) according to DOH guidelines
  • Identify and treat patients with TB and HIV treatment failure
  • Facilitate transfers and up-referrals of patients with DRTB and /or complications
  • Initiate paediatric and adolescent patients on TB and HIV treatment
  • Capacity building for MatCH and DOH staff, including training and on-site mentoring
  • Compile reports on progress and consultations made with facilities staff
  • Compile and submit reports to programme managers for submission to donors
  • Stakeholder management (internal and external)
  • Effective self-management and performance ownership



Required minimum education and training

  • MBBCh degree or equivalent and certification in HIV and TB Management

Professional body registration

  • Health Professions Council of South Africa.
  • Must have MPS cover


Minimum work experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in public health, practicing DS TB, DRTB and HIV medicine


Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

  • Knowledge of managing public sector health program/s
  • Knowledge of and experience in working and dealing with district and local health authorities
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience working in a donor funded organization / NGO or project-based environment
  • Experience in developing training materials and conducting training
  • Facilitation, mentoring, coaching and supervision experience (Training Skills)
  • Ability to prioritize work with competing demands on time and work towards meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, operational management, coordination, administrative and planning skills
  • Evidence of good communication: verbal and written, including report writing skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in English and other African language
